Parkway Pet Resort started operation in 2004. Jeff Greer, a retired engineer and dedicated pet lover used his talents and love of animals to build a state of the art pet boarding facility. The design was contemplated and refined after formal training and several facility visits. The resort was fashioned after several of the latest luxury pet resorts and incorporates many features that help us care for your pet in ways that make them feel comfortable and secure.
While the resort was constructed to provide the dogs’ comfort (state of the art enclosures, windows in each suite with raised beds, large grassed exercise areas and climate control), human attention was what the animals wanted most. The exercise routines were adjusted and the result has been what most dogs feel is an exciting experience. Almost all dogs enjoy their stay and it has been very rewarding to see their excitement to return. Many clients say their dogs get very excited when the get to the stoplight on US 98, because they know they are getting to come to the resort.
Now more than ever pets are regarded as family members. We know that you have many choices for boarding your pets and we strive to keep our guests comfortable and entertained while maintaining the best facility possible. Most of our clients choose our facility much as you would choose a daycare facility for your child. We are dedicated to the health, wellness and happiness of each and every pet that we care for. Our facility is impeccably clean, and rooms are sanitized daily.
Additionally, the dogs are leashed and taken out individually five times per day. The process starts early in the morning (between 5 am and 6 am) and ends fairly late (8 pm to 9 pm. We have found this schedule simulates the pets’ normal routine and makes them more comfortable. When the dogs go out, they are lead to one of five large, (approximately 1/8 acre) private, grassed yards where they are next to other guests in the other yards. While the dogs are always kept separate, they do interact between the fences and there are usually very spirited conversations that occur during the exercise times. Just as they went out, the dogs are taken back in individually where they are given treats that we ask that you supply. The dogs find this whole process very exciting and seem to brag about being picked to be the one that is leashed.
Each suite has its own window and we furnish Kuranda beds and bedding of various sorts. The windows are doggie level and the dogs can entertain themselves by looking outside just as they might at home. There are three different sizes of suites, but only the largest have webcams. Any of the large webcam suites can also accommodate a toddler bed if your dog is used to sleeping on furniture of you feel that it might enjoy the comfort of people furniture. The medium and large sizes of suites are able to accommodate multiple dogs as long as they are from the same family and do not squabble over food. We do discount for multiple dogs sharing the same enclosure since they can be taken out together.
The main difference between the suites and the kennel building is the kennel does not have the windows that the suites have. The enclosures are raised floor (meaning the dogs aren’t on concrete), and we provide comfortable bedding. The dogs in the kennel also experience the same exercise routine and go out five times/day. However, since we cannot enter the enclosures, controlling multiple dogs can be very difficult and for this reason we don’t board multiple dogs in the same kennel enclosure.
The cattery is light, quiet and has a lot of windows. Each condo has its own window. The cattery building is separate from the kennel but we have found that the cats enjoy watching the dogs go out. The condos are separately ventilated and have five levels, including a privacy (litterbox) level. Each condo has a four post oak bed that your cat can lounge on while looking out the window. The condos are spacious and we can board multiple cats in the same enclosure. Since the cattery is secure, once your cat is used to us we can allow it to have access to the common area so that it can stretch its legs and use scratching posts, or to just lay around in a different area. Cats are never allowed to interact with other cats.
Birds are kept in their own area and we have several cages that can be used. However, we have found that birds are usually more comfortable in their own enclosure and we urge you to bring your bird’s “travel cage” if possible.
In addition, we provide many additional services and can accommodate many special requests. We have a Hydrosurge bathing unit which allows us to bathe your dog with a comforting massage effect which also provides a superior bath. A lot of our guests are often treated to spa days in between boarding.
Finally, the site is tended at night (the owner sleeps on site). Our guests are comforted by the continuity this provides.
